QUICK GETAWAYS
Though it's not always possible to take as long a vacation as you might like, there is no need to abandon hope for an exciting and exotic overseas journey! Some of Absolute Travel's destinations are close enough that they can easily be visited in a shorter timeframe - as little as one week, in fact. Morocco, Turkey, and all South American destinations make perfect short vacations, allowing time to tour the major cities, visit the countryside, and even lie on the beach for a few lazy days. For example, a one-week getaway to Chile might include three nights exploring Santiago, charming Valparaiso, and the Maipo Valley wine region followed by four nights at Explora's lovely Hotel de Larache in the haunting Atacama Desert. Call one of our travel specialists to learn more about what you can do with the vacation time you have.

WET AND WILD IN SOUTH AMERICA
Did you know that South America has a waterfall that is every bit as spectacular as Niagara Falls? Iguazú Falls (also called Iguassu Falls) is actually a series of about 270 waterfalls that stretch for two miles along the Argentina/Brazil border, and many people consider it the must-see natural attraction of these countries. There are plenty of ways to enjoy and experience the falls: on the Argentina side, a scenic train ride and many winding pathways offer beautiful views. On her recent trip to Argentina, Absolute Travel staff member Lisa Sun hopped aboard one of the boats that heads right into the spray - and learned the hard way that you should bring a poncho if you want to avoid getting soaked! The Brazil side offers the opportunity to see the famous Devil's Throat (Garganta del Diablo), a horseshoe-shaped waterfall that is considered the most magnificent of them all. Iguazú is just a two-hour flight from Buenos Aires, the "Paris of South America," and a short 1.5-hour flight from the fabulous beaches of Rio de Janeiro, so it's easy to include a visit to these amazing falls in a Brazil or Argentina trip! Visit our website to see some suggested South America tours that include Iguazú Falls or contact Absolute Travel for a customized itinerary. |

FAMILY FUN IN BALI
After weathering a difficult time for tourism, Bali has bounced back, and Absolute Travel is fielding more inquiries than ever - we've always loved this peaceful island and are thrilled at the revival of interest. While Bali has always been a popular destination for couples, we actually think it's equally perfect for families. The island is small enough to cover easily by road (so you can see everything but avoid the hassle of regional flights) and the beaches, temples, and attractions like the famed Monkey Forest keep kids engaged and entertained. Company president Ken Fish recently took his wife and two children to Bali for several weeks and, while there, renewed his wedding vows in a romantic sunset ceremony followed by dinner on the beach. "My wife was completely bowled over that I had arranged this event and the kids loved watching us 'get married' and happily wore traditional Balinese outfits for the event. It was a special way to involve our whole family in a meaningful evening that we will all remember forever." Absolute Travel routinely arranges vow renewals and other special experiences as part of a private luxury trip to Bali; contact a travel specialist for a customized itinerary or to discuss travel options. |

RIGHT NOW, WE LOVE:
SAMARA PRIVATE GAME RESERVE, SOUTH AFRICA
It is a challenge to stay current with the ever-changing landscape of African safari lodges, but our Africa specialist Daniela Bonanno makes a valiant effort with frequent visits and tireless site inspections. Her newest favorite is Samara Private Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape's malaria-free Great Karoo. The lodge has only six suites (there is also a house available for private use by families or small groups) decorated in a bright, airy style that is both inviting and peaceful. The largest private reserve in the Eastern Cape, Samara is prime roaming ground for wild cheetah and white rhino, species that have become increasingly rare to see on safari. In addition to game drives, guests can also check out the San Rock Art, ancient fossils, and 700-year-old Shepherd Trees. Perhaps the most special aspect of Samara, though, is its dedication to conservation and the community: 90% of the staff are from the immediate vicinity and the reserve regularly hosts students from local schools on educational visits. The lodge has also played a key role in rejuvenating the Great Karoo and reintroducing wild cheetah into the area. Call or email Absolute Travel to discuss incorporating Samara into your southern Africa itinerary. |
