| Luang Prabang, Siem Reap | |||
| This journey will focus on two of Southeast Asia’s most enchanting cities, Luang Prabang and Siem Reap where time seems to stand still and many ancient treasures of this lovely region remain. The pace of life here is slow and your itinerary reflects this with ample time to see the major highlights while soaking in the tranquil surroundings and experiencing the legendary hospitality of the local population. Begin with four nights in Luang Prabang, a sleepy town lying on the banks of the Mekong River where a fascinating mix of French colonial architecture and stunning Buddhist temples creates an intoxicating atmosphere far removed from other Asian cities. Rise early to observe the monks in their morning meal procession, take a slowboat up the Mekong to the ancient Buddhist caves of Pak Ou and the Khouangsi Falls, a series of turquoise waterfalls that appear to tumble out of the lush, green jungle. Head outside of the city to visit local villages and upon return you will have the opportunity to see Luang Prabang’s bustling night market and sample the local fare. From here, take a short flight to Cambodia and the magnificent temple town of Siem Reap. Stay here for three nights and explore ancient Angkor ruins by day, by night wander through night markets and enjoy a traditional dance performance. With ample time to see all the temple highlights as well as some lesser known ruins, you will come home with unforgettable memories and an appreciation for the ancient Khmer Empire as well as modern Cambodian culture. | |||
