Though South Africa receives more attention for family-friendly safaris, Zambia has so much to offer the active, adventurous family: it is less crowded and the pristine, unspoiled landscape offers a quieter taste of safari life. All of the lodges featured in this itinerary have been chosen specifically because they are ideal for families and the pacing has been adjusted to be easier on participants of all ages. Start with three nights at Tangala House in Livingstone, a private home on the banks of the Zambezi River; while here, you can tour Victoria Falls, visit Livingstone, and do some game viewing within Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park. Fly to South Luangwa National Park for three nights at the Luangwa Safari House, which sits on a private estate. From there, head to Chongwe River House in the Lower Zambezi National Park; the house is built with wild wood and ferro walls that create a flowing, organic feel. Two full days are ample time to learn about the Chongwe area, which is famous for huge male elephants and other wild mammals and birds that are attracted to the banks of the Zambezi River. |
