For most visitors, the premier reason to visit Rwanda and Uganda is to track the regal mountain gorilla in its natural habitat; this program allows a complete gorilla trekking experience along with opportunities to learn more about the cultural heritage of both countries. Begin your journey in Kigali, Rwanda, with a visit to a museum that offers background and insight into Rwanda’s complicated recent history. Continue by road to Parc National des Volcans, a brief but stunning drive through some of Rwanda’s most beautiful scenery. While staying at Volcanoes Virunga Lodge, you will have two opportunities to track the seven gorilla groups in Rwanda; additional activity options include climbing a volcano to visit Dian Fossey’s grave or viewing the endangered Golden Monkeys. The next day, drive to Uganda and for a night at Volcanoes Mount Gahinga Lodge. Whether you choose to simply enjoy the scenery or go on a nature walk, remember that Uganda is known across the globe as a superb birding destination, so keep your eyes and ears open! Next drive to Volcanoes Bwindi Lodge for two nights. Take another opportunity to trek with gorillas in an entirely new environment -- we promise you will be astounded by how different the terrain and the gorillas are here!

Gorilla trekking is a physically strenuous activity, during which visitors may spend from 2 to 8 hours trekking through dense rainforest. A reasonable degree of fitness and stamina is required for participation.

This is simply a suggested itinerary and can easily be customized to suit your schedule, budget, and interests.
