Fiji
Sample the many spectacular beaches, snorkel in the
colorful coral reefs, visit the intriguing outer
islands and check out the mountainous interiors
from Nadi
on Viti Levu, continue to the Coral
Coast for a couple of days of secluded sun and sea
visit Suva,
an extremely friendly city which still retains some of its British colonial
charm
take the Captain Cook Cruise between 3
to 7 nights to visit the outer islands
spend a few nights at the deluxe
resorts in Vatulele, the Mamanuca
or Yasawa archipelagos.
French Polynesia
In Tahiti, learn about the cultivation of black
pearls and visit Le Marche, the bustling market
where the locals shop in Papeete
walk on the
stunning black sand beaches
sample some of the
local food -- like poisson cru -- at the roulottes (mobile food trucks)
down by the waterfront in Papeete...explore the spectacular bays, crystalline
lagoons, and white sand beaches on Moorea
in
Bora Bora, stop in at the friendly villages, explore
the archeological sites, and swim in the multi-colored lagoon in the center
snorkel
or dive in Rangiroa's turquoise lagoon, which spans
over 630 square miles
go fishing and sailing in Raiatea,
the second largest island in French Polynesia.
Kingdom of Tonga
In Polynesia's only surviving kingdom, attend a religious
ceremony in whcih the Tongans combine Christian hymns, lali drums and
ancient chants...in Nuku'alofa, visit the white Victoria
Royal Palace on the waterfront and the Mala'ekula
(Royal Tombs), a burial place for Tongan royalty since 1893
see
the blowholes along the coast of Houma
see
the rare flying fox at Kolovai
visit the Langi
(Terraced Tombs), quadrilateral mounds with huge blocks of coral stone
rising in terraces; Ha'amonga Trilithon, a massive
stone arch believed to once have served as a seasonal calendar; and the stalactites
at Anahulu Cave in the east.
