| For those who want to see the highlights of Burma on a shorter time frame, this trip provides a perfect introduction to the country in less than one week. Start with two nights in Yangon, Burma’s charming capital city. Visit the sacred Sule Pagoda, the National Museum, Bogyoke Aung San market and, of course, the golden Schwedagon Pagoda. From Yangon, fly to Bagan and begin touring the temples that stretch endlessly along the Irrawaddy Plain. In the evening, get a different perspective on the temples -– and an appreciation for how many of them there are -– with a sunset hot air balloon ride. The next day, enjoy another morning at the temples before heading to Mt. Popa in the afternoon. Climb to the very top of the mountain to see the temple that perches there -- it offers fascinating insight in the animist beliefs that remain very much alive in Burma. The next day, visit nearby Salay, a religious center notable for its many monasteries and temple ruins similar to Bagan (but on a smaller scale). In the afternoon, fly back to Yangon for a final night before catching your international departure flight. | |||
