Private Luxury Travel - Deluxe Syria hotels - The Talisman Boutique HotelThe Talisman
Damascus

Tucked away down a quiet street in the Jewish Quarter, just minutes by foot from Damascus’ ancient city sites, visitors will find an unmarked door leading them to The Talisman, an exclusive boutique property that feels more like a home than a hotel. Built around two courtyards and an outdoor swimming pool, guests will not have to look hard for a corner to relax. Not only is the structure of the hotel a work of art in itself, but designers were careful to preserve the details when restoring the former Arab family – everything from the intricately wood-carved doors and marble moldings to the Turkish hammam retain their original character. No two of the seventeen rooms are alike, only adding to the charm, all equipped with the modern conveniences and specially selected local furnishings.

Damascus

Originally a family home dating back to the 17th century, Beit Al Mamlouka was Damascus’ first boutique hotel and is regarded as one of the loveliest properties in all of Syria. After years of neglect, the property was brought back to life after a loving three-year restoration that is truly a work of art: fragrant citrus trees surround the central courtyard providing a sweet-smelling scent wherever guests may be; gorgeous handpicked Syrian antiques and textiles adorn the generous rooms and even the bathrooms are worth mentioning, as the hand-painted mosaic marble and tiles coloring each bathroom were stunning and even resonated with the Mamlouk period of the hotel's beginnings. Each of the eight rooms is decorated uniquely reflecting a period of Syrian history with chic sophistication; the Suleiman the Magnificent suite even hosts a 230 year old Christian fresco on the ceiling and its own private fountain.

Damascus

This exclusive twelve-room boutique property is located on Straight Street in the historic part of Damascus, perfectly wedged between the eastern gate of St. Ania’s house and the Damascus bazaar. Built by an Austrian doctor in the 19th century and later occupied by the Austrian Honorary Consulate, this enchanting home turned family-run boutique hotel retains all the character that initially made it a city landmark – even when refurbishing the owners used the original marble of white, green, red and blue. The rooms continue to charm guests with their colorful mosaic tiled bathrooms, lavish antique chandeliers and intricate ceilings, but what got us the most were the property’s windows, adorned with the old speech of poets about the love of life. Convenience is not sacrificed here, each equipped with a flat-screen television, free WiFi and 24-hour room service. And for those with tired feet from a day of walking the maze of streets outside their door, the property’s onsite restaurant, Europe, is not to be missed (be sure to try their fresh local juices, a simple pleasure, but we are still craving them!).

Aleppo

Nestled within the walled old city of the Jdeidah Quarter lies Mansouriya, a 16th century Ottoman Arabic house which, after a seven-year restoration, is one of the chicest properties in Syria. A serene courtyard centers the property, complete with a pool perfect for a refreshing summer dip, while the nine unique rooms surrounding the courtyard speak to the past, each of them emulating a different period in Syrian history. Guests will quickly realize that Mansouriya is one-of-a-kind as designers juxtaposed traditional details like damask silk, cabinets inlaid with mother of pearl and hand-carved marble bathtubs with more unexpected touches like tiger-print chairs and stone lions flanking the beds. Personal attention is unparalleled here as staff know your name from the moment you arrive and take care of every detail through your stay -- from prepping your personal floor heater on chilly winter mornings to arranging a rejuvenating afternoon at the property’s private hammam on restful days.

Palmyra

Enclosed by 150 palm trees in the Syrian desert, the Tamadora Palace Spa & Hotel is Palmyra’s most luxurious property, offering guests a unique desert oasis complete with top-notch restaurants, stylish rooms, an indoor pool and gym, and even a Bedouin tent for guests wishing to let loose to a festive band and dancing! The architecture and design resonate with Palmyrian roots, from the structure of the hotel (architects kept the Temple of Bel in mind) to the use of natural materials from the region to design each of the 73 rooms. But our favorite part? After a day of touring the ruins, make sure to visit the property’s exquisite Six Senses Spa featuring a traditional hammam, sauna and four separate treatment rooms. Expert therapists will remind you where you are by using local and organic products such as dates, olives, and Arabic spices as you blissfully relax with traditional Asian therapies.
