Amangalla
Galle
The modern and minimalist Amangalla is a perfect base for visitors who want
to explore Galle Fort and the city. Amangalla is located within the walls
of the fort, and is actually a collection of buildings, some of which date
back 400 years. Though the buildings have a rich history, the interior is
sleek, with occasional nods to tradition (as with the four-poster beds).
Guests choose among four categories of accommodation: Bedrooms, Chambers,
Suites, and the ultra-luxurious Garden House. Dark wood floors and furniture
contrast with the crisp white walls and linens, while large windows welcome
the sunlight and offer expansive views of the lush green foliage outdoors.
"The Baths" is a building containing massage treatment rooms,
sauna, a steam room, and hydrotherapy pools -- we recommend that you skip
the sightseeing one afternoon and, instead, indulge in a treatment and then
lounge in one of the deliciously shady cabanas by the pool.

Amanwella
Tangalle
This stylish Aman resort stands in a coconut grove on a beautiful crescent-shaped
beach close to the cultural village of Tangalle. There are only 30 rooms
(Suites and Ocean Suites) at Amanwella -- while the two categories differ
because of their location and views, they are identical in layout, with
contemporary design and floor-to-ceiling glass and sliding wood paneling,
which leaves two sides open to beautiful views and giving direct access
to the private plunge pool and terrace. The terrace is well equipped for
relaxing in the warm sun, with a dining table, chairs, and double chaise
lounge. The best ocean suites have uninterrupted panoramic views of the
beach and the coconut groves, and four have connecting doors on the terrace
so they are perfect options for families. |

Ceylon Tea Trails
Hatton Hill Country
Set on a sprawling (and still functioning!) tea plantation amid the Bogawantalawa Valley, the Ceylon Tea Trails fits in perfectly with its picturesque surroundings. The four repurposed colonial era plantation bungalows come equipped with a personal chef, manager, butler and high tea, of course. The region is a nature lover’s delight – decorated with a maze of walking and bike paths, kayaking and rafting opportunities, and for the more adventurous, a sunrise pilgrimage to Adam’s Peak, arguably the holiest mountain in Sri Lanka. Our favorite part? A tour with a local tea planter to learn what life on the estate is really like, followed by high tea in front of the cozy log fire in your charming bungalow.

The Kandy House
Kandy
Previously a manor home, The Kandy House is now a stunning eight-bedroom boutique hotel ridden with Sinhalese history and charm. Located 25 minutes from downtown Kandy, guests will find it hard not to relax here whether exploring the landscaped gardens, snacking on the avocado, jackfruit, and papaya trees throughout the property, resting in a double hammock, or taking a refreshing dip in the property’s infinity pool (overlooking picturesque rice paddy fields, no less!). The 200 year-old structure’s character not only lies in its design but the small touches throughout: the Jackwood staircase, modern polished cement bathroom floors, and the colorful rooms that surround the two-story courtyard are the perfect combination of classic Kandyan and Bawa-influenced architecture – all details are sure to please the most discerning traveler.
