Uma
Paro
Nestled among dramatic snow-capped mountains and valleys, the Uma Paro seamlessly
integrates itself into the eastern Himalayan countryside, one of the last
pristine mountain landscapes on earth. Though local Bhutanese artisans used
traditional methods in designing and building the 20 rooms and 9 villas,
the result is somehow a clean-lined modernism that is both relaxing and
peaceful. No luxury is spared: among other amenities, all rooms feature
oversized bathrooms, DVD players, heated towel racks and in-room yoga mats.
The one-room villas all have their own private spa and courtyard for absolute
privacy. Using local organic produce, the restaurant serves Bhutanese cuisine
combined with pan-Asian flavor and accents. More pampering awaits at the
Como Shambhala spa, which offers Asian-inspired holistic treatments, a steam
room, sauna, indoor pool and a yoga room.

Amankora
Aman operates five lodges in Bhutan; the largest is in Paro but there are smaller lodges in Thimphu, Bumthang, Gangtay and Punakha. The Amankora lodges are built in traditional style and many of them feature natural rammed-earth walls, gently sloping roofs and wood-paneled interiors with king-size beds, traditional bukhari wood burning stoves, and large terrazzo bathtubs. The design and approach of each lodge is meant to showcase the advantages of its location: in Gangtay, the view of the valley allows guests to spot the rare black-necked cranes that live there and guests at the Punakha lodge can dine in a farmhouse that once belonged to the queen mother. Periodically, guest speakers will visit the lodges to share insight and background with guests. The small size of the properties and the many thoughtful small touches make staying here a very special experience.

Taj Thimphu
Centrally located in Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan, the Taj Tashi is built in a dzong style that seamlessly melds aspects of traditional Bhutanese craftsmanship with modern design and comforts. With more than 130 rooms and suites that have lovely Bhutanese touches like hand-drawn murals, the Taj Tashi is the largest of Bhutan's luxury properties and has all the accompanying amenities one would expect: an authentic Bhutanese restaurant, tea lounge, bar, heated indoor swimming pool, and fitness center. Additionally, the Jiva Spa offers signature Indian and Bhutanese holistic treatments like the traditional hot stone baths.
